A fraction is a number that is not a whole number (whole numbers include numbers like 2, 5, 10 etc). Fractions are therefore numbers like ½, ¼, etc

A fraction has two parts and we are going to take ¾ as a case study. The two parts of a fraction are; the numerator and the denominator. With our case study, the number 3 is found in the numerator while the number 4 is found in the denominator of the fraction.

There are basically 3 types of fractions;

Proper fractions: fractions in which the numerator is less than the denominator e.g ⅝ 

Improper fractions are fractions in which the denominator is less than the numerator e.g 9/2

Mixed fractions are fractions that made up of a whole number attached to a proper fraction, e.g 2½
