GCE Quiz (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use https://gcequiz.com (the “Service”), how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

By using the Service you consent to the practices described in this policy. We recommend reading it alongside our Terms of Service.

We collect information in two ways:

a) Information you give us

• Account registration: if you create an account, we collect your username, email address and password (stored as a secure hash).
• Contact messages: if you email us at info@gcequiz.com we retain the content of that correspondence.

b) Information collected automatically

• Usage data: pages visited, quiz results (not linked to your identity unless you are signed in), time spent, referring URL.
• Device data: browser type, operating system, screen resolution, IP address (anonymised by Google Analytics).
• Cookies: see Section 5 below for full details.

We do not collect payment information. The Service is entirely free; no financial data is ever processed by GCE Quiz.

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate and improve the Service
• Authenticate your account and maintain session security
• Respond to support requests and feedback
• Understand how users navigate the Service so we can improve it (via anonymised analytics)
• Display contextually relevant advertising through Google AdSense
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse or technical issues
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

• Contract: processing necessary to provide your account and the Service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interests: analytics, security, and service improvement — balanced against your rights and not overriding them.
• Consent: for non-essential cookies (analytics, advertising). You may withdraw consent at any time via your browser settings or our cookie notice.
• Legal obligation: where processing is required by law.

We use cookies — small text files stored in your browser — to operate and improve the Service. Below is a summary of the cookies we use:

We use the following third-party services which may process your data:

• Google Analytics — anonymous website analytics. IP addresses are anonymised. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
• Google AdSense — advertising. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site or other sites. You can opt out at google.com/settings/ads.
• GCE Quiz API — our backend API at v1.api.gcequiz.com processes quiz data and account information. This server is operated by us and subject to this policy.

These services have their own privacy policies and we encourage you to read them. We are not responsible for the data practices of third-party providers.

GCE Quiz serves students of all ages, including young children using our KS1 and KS2 content. We take children's privacy seriously.

• Children under 13 may use the Service to take quizzes without creating an account.
• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
• If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at info@gcequiz.com and we will delete it promptly.
• Our anonymous quiz-taking functionality does not require any personal information from any user.

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Anonymous analytics data (which cannot identify you) may be retained indefinitely for statistical purposes.

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Erasure: ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
• Restriction: ask us to stop processing your data in certain circumstances
• Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Withdraw consent: for any processing based on consent, at any time

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. These include HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and hashed password storage. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. For significant changes we will provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
