O level Coordinate Geometry Quizzes
A Coordinate is a system that is used to determine the exact position of a point or points and at the O levels, the coordinates are taken to be real numbers. Geometry on the other hand is a branch in Mathematics that studies the sizes, shapes, positions, angles and dimensions of objects. Flat shapes like squares, circles and triangles are a part of geometry and are called 2D shapes. These shapes have only two dimension, the length and the width. There is what is know as a 3D shape or object and such objects include spheres, cones, cylinders etc Now, what is Coordinate Geometry? Coordinate Geometry also know as Analytic Geometry is a branch of geometry where the position of the points on a plane is defined with the help of an ordered pair of numbers known as coordinates.

To begin, we're going to define Coordinate and Geometry separately
A Coordinate is a system that is used to determine the exact position of a point or points and at the O levels, the coordinates are taken to be real numbers. Now, what is Coordinate Geometry?
Coordinate Geometry likewise know as Analytic Geometry is a part of math where the situation of the focuses on a plane is characterized with the assistance of an arranged pair of numbers known as directions
If you know the coordinates of a group of points you can:
- Determine the distance between them
For example, Given the points A(x1,y1) and B(x2,y2), The distance between A and B denoted AB is given by
AB=√[(x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²]
- Find the midpoint, slope and equation of a line segment
Using the points from the example above,
Midpoint, M=((x1+x2)/2,(y1+y2/2))
Slope, m=Δy/Δx=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
Equation of line segment: y-y1=m(x-x1) or y-y2=m(x-x2)
- Determine if lines are parallel or perpendicular
If two lines are parallel then their gradients are equal and if they are perpendicular, then the product of gradients is -1 and gcequiz has so many quizzes that tests your knowledge in all of these aspects of coordinate geometry but if you wish to answer quizzes in other topics in O level Mathematics, click Here and if you wish to change the subject tap on gcequiz.com
