About KS1 English

KS1 English develops reading, writing, and spoken language skills for pupils in Years 1 and 2. Children learn phonics and decoding, build vocabulary, begin to understand grammar and punctuation, and practise writing sentences and short texts for different purposes.

Our KS1 English quizzes cover key areas of the curriculum including phonics (Phase 5 and 6), common exception words, reading comprehension, grammar basics such as capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, nouns, verbs, adjectives, conjunctions, and sentence structure.

Regular quiz practice helps young readers and writers reinforce what they learn in class. The questions are carefully worded to be accessible for early readers while still challenging pupils to think carefully about language and meaning.
